How To Apply

Appeals can be made using our online application form. Please ensure you have read our guidance and the below FAQs before applying.

We can only make grants to registered charitable organisations

The Foundation makes donations to organisations based, or specifically working in, Scotland.

We do ask for your latest financial accounts.

We do not make grants to individuals.

We do not tend to support capital projects.

We will not support activities that are generally the responsibility of the local health authority, education authority or similar body.

1. Submit an appeal
Using our online form or in the post

2. Acknowledgment of receipt
We will email you to let you know the appeal is received and confrming the future Board meeting date at which your appeal will be considered.

3. Board meeting of the Trustees
The directors consider appeals at their tri-annual Board meetings.

4. Outcome notified
We will email you to let you know the outcome of the Foundation’s decision, including the value of any award agreed.

5. For successful appeals
We will request your charity’s bank details for payment. We endeavour to make payments within four weeks of the Board meeting.

FAQs

Q - When does the Foundation Board meet?

A - The Board meets three times a year (normally November, February and June).

Q - How can we send supporting material?

A - By online upload at the end of the appeal form, or by post.

Q - When can we submit our appeal?

A - Appeals may be submitted at any time throughout the year and will be put forward to the next scheduled meeting of the Board. In exceptional circumstances, the Treasurer has the discretion to make donations between meetings (up to the value of £5,000).

Q - How often can we apply for funding?

A - Only one donation can be made per year. Cruden Foundation’s financial year runs from the start of August to the end of July.

Q - How can we submit our appeal?

A - Appeals can be made online using the application form or sent in the post to The Cruden Foundation, 16 Walker Street, Edinburgh, EH3 7LP. If sending by post, it is preferred that you fill in then print our application form (supplemented by any supporting material if you wish).

Q - Is there guidance as to the size of charity the Cruden Foundation supports?

A - The Foundation supports a range of sizes of charity, but tends to focus on smaller charities with lower reserves.

Q - Will feedback be available for unsuccessful appeals?

A - Regrettably we are not able to provide feedback to individual charities owing to the high number of appeals received each year.

Q - Can my charity apply for repeat funding or multi-year donations?

A - We are not generally able to provide formal future commitments in this way, however charities are welcome to re-apply each year for funding. Over the years Cruden Foundation has been proud to be able to provide continuous support to a significant number of charities.
